Belmont Abbey Tabbed Favorite in 2019-20 Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Belmont Abbey narrowly edged out Barton in the 2019-20 Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll.

The conference office officially unveiled the preseason poll that was chosen by the league’s head coaches on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019. 

Belmont Abbey captured three first-place votes in securing the top spot with a total of 98 points. Barton also received three first-first place votes, but a sixth-place vote and two fourth-place votes was the difference in them sitting just behind Belmont Abbey in second with 95 points.

Mount Olive was the only one in the preseason poll in the top six to not receive a first-place vote, but the Trojans with 86 total points finished just one spot ahead of King (85) in third place despite the Tornado receiving two first-place votes. Defending regular season and tournament champion Emmanuel was tabbed fifth in the preseason poll with one first-place vote and a total of 83 points. Lees-McRae, the 2018 Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Tournament champion, received two first-place votes to sit in sixth with a total of 72 points.

Limestone was tabbed seventh with 50 points followed by Erskine (47), Chowan (42), Southern Wesleyan (32) and North Greenville (25).

The 2020 Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will officially start on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 with higher seeded institutions hosting quarterfinal matchups for the right to advance to the semifinals at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. on Saturday, March 7, 2020. The championship games of the 2020 Conference Carolinas Basketball Championships will be held in Spartanburg on Sunday, March 8, 2020.
