2019 Men's Cross Country Award Winners

Week Seven (Oct. 21, 2019)
Kyle Hart, King



Hart led King with a time of 27:46.0 at the VertCross Invitational. The time allowed the sophomore from Yorba Linda, Calif. to finish 76th individually at the race featuring mostly NCAA Division I runners hosted by High Point.


Week Six (Oct. 14, 2019)
Jacob Gonzalez, Mount Olive 

Gonzalez just missed on his personal-best in collecting his first top-10 finish of the 2019 season at the loaded Royals Challenge that featured 57 men’s teams across all divisions.

The junior from Four Oaks, N.C. posted a time of 24:16.2 to finish ninth out of 519 runners.


Week Five (Oct. 7, 2019)
Tai Smith - Mount Olive

A native of Glendale, Ariz., Tai Smith posted an 8K time of 24:21.4 at the prestigious Paul Short Invitational. 

Competing against NCAA Division I and II competitors, Smith finished 68th out of 380.


Week Four (Sept. 30, 2019)
Tristin Bertie - Lees-McRae

A native of Cleveland, Ga., Tristin Bertie led all Conference Carolinas runners on the week with an 8K time of 26:50 at the Queen City Invitational. The time placed the junior 55th at the event that featured well over 300 runners, which included runners from NCAA Division I schools.

Bertie, who was also named Conference Carolinas Runner of the Week on Sept. 9, helped lead Lees-McRae to a conference-best finish of 18th at the Queen City Invitational. The Bobcats bested Division I schools such as Gardner-Webb, Savannah State, Longwood, Presbyterian College and The Citadel.


Week Three (Sept. 23, 2019)
Tai Smith - Mount Olive

Tai Smith finished second out of 147 this past weekend at the Bulldog Stampede hosted by Wingate. The senior from Glendale, Ariz. posted a time of 25:23.9 on the 8K course that will serve later this year as the NCAA Southeast Regional course in what will then be a 10K race.

As a team, Mount Olive finished first out of 20 teams at the event. 


Week Two (Sept. 16, 2019)
Shane Shelafoe - Emmanuel


A native of Maysville, Ga., Shane Shelafoe finished third individually at the 2019 UNG Cross Country Invitational that was hosted by North Georgia in Oakwood, Ga. Shelafoe posted an 8K time of 26:53.8 in finishing third at the UNG Invitational that featured 101 men’s participants.

Shelafoe’s strong finish allowed Emmanuel to finish second out of 12 teams at the UNG Invitational.


Week One (Sept. 9, 2019)
Tristin Bertie - Lees-McRae


A 2018 Conference Carolinas men’s cross country third team selection, Tristin Bertie closed out his opening event of the season by finishing fifth at the 8K Lenoir-Rhyne Cross Country Invitational

The Cleveland, Ga. native placed fifth in the event with a time of 27:09.25.
