Note: When there is a pre-determined championship site, the contest times should be pre-determined based on seed, not on the host, regardless of whether the championship is being played at a neutral or campus site.

Note: All game-officials cost will be provided by host (non-traveling) institution. A hospitality tent will be provided by the host for all tournament participants.

Note: Schedules can be changed with AD approval from both institutions. 

Scheduling Note: For final regular-season contests, a team with 200+ miles of travel must begin contest at 4:00pm or earlier (e.g., a double-header could have times of 1:30pm and 4:00pm) (5/22/18). 

Conference Tournament

  • Eight conference teams will play in a single-elimination tournament.
  • The quarterfinals are hosted by the higher seeds. The semifinals and final are at a site determined by bid.
  • The NCAA tiebreaking procedure will be applied in the event of a tie to all contests.
  • Upon completion of the championship contest, the Championship All-Tournament Awards will be presented.

Seeding: Teams will be seeded according to regular-season finish based on overall conference winning percentage. Ties will be broken in the following manner:

1) Head-to-head results during the regular season for a two-way tie;

2) Record against first-place team and working down;

3) Record against non-conference common opponents;

4) Total goals scored minus total goals against with no more than five goals counting in contests where the differential is greater than five;

5) Random selection by Commissioner. (In a multi-member tie requiring random selection, the random selection is for the highest seed among the tied teams and then returning to the start of the tie-breaking procedure for the remaining teams.) 

*In the situation of three or more teams tying: After determining the highest-seeded team, the tiebreaking procedure reverts back to the start of the tiebreaking procedure to seed the next team. This process continues until all tied teams have been seeded. 

Lacrosse Policies

(1) Each team must play all other conference teams once during the season to be eligible for the conference championship. Contests with teams that are ineligible for the championship, because all conference teams were not scheduled, shall not be counted as official conference contests.
(2) Each coach will distribute schedules at least one week prior to the beginning of the season to all conference teams.
(3) Conference teams may play each other more than once during the season. However, only the regular season contest between the two teams where the home and away teams are listed in the conference schedule matrix will count towards conference won-loss records.
(4) It is highly recommended that three officials be used to umpire, but with an absolute minimum of two for all conference contests.
(5) NCAA rules apply to regular season contests which are tied.
(6) Suspended contests will follow NCAA official lacrosse rules.
(7) Regular season standings will determine seeding for the conference lacrosse tournament.
(8) Members will participate in the IWLCA open film exchange (KrossOver starting in 2017) but will continue to not exchange film (outside of participants of KrossOver) or verbal/written scouting reports to non-conference opponents.
(9) The host team is responsible for filming and uploading the game film for the visiting conference team within 48 hours of the contest. In the event that the host team cannot provide staff to film the game, they must notify the visiting team 48 hours prior to the contest.
(10) Members agree to admit opponents’ students, with student ID, without charge (8/11/04). 

Partial Contest Policy: If any expense is incurred (e.g., if the bus leaves campus) and the contest is not played to completion, the contest is not to be replayed. If the contest is underway and stopped, the contest will be considered completed if 48 minutes have been played (5/12).

Ejection Policy: When a player or team party member is ejected, both the team's coach and (if a conference opponent) the opposing coach are to notify their director of athletics upon completion of the contest. The director of athletics will immediately notify the conference office and subsequently complete and submit to the conference office the Ejection Report Form. The conference office will notify each member president immediately when notified of an ejection. 

A coach ejected for an "unsporting act" will be cautioned by the institution’s director of athletics or immediate supervisor in a form provided by the conference. Copies of cautions and suspensions will be provided to the institution’s President, FAR, Supervisor of Officials, and Commissioner. A second ejection in the same year will, minimally, carry a next-contest suspension. A third ejection in the same year will, minimally, carry a next two-contest suspension. End-of-year suspensions will be carried forward to the next year. Ejected coaches must leave the sight of the playing field when ejected. If the ejected coach does not comply in a timely manner, the contest is forfeited.

All-Conference Team

Each team through their SID may nominate field players and goaltenders for all-conference consideration. All nominations received by the Service Bureau Director prior to the stated deadline will be returned for distribution. First Team (12), Second Team (12), and Third Team (12) will be selected by the top four vote-getters at attack, top three at midfield, top four at defense, and top vote-getter (1) at goalkeeper (12 members per team) for a total of 36 total award winners. Each team will vote for players in rank order and may not vote for their own players. The team will be selected by nominations via email submission to the conference office. Nominations must only include conference stats for nomination consideration.

Offensive Player of the Year: Each conference member will vote for three players, excluding their own, in rank order and the winner will be named Offensive Player of the Year. Ties will be broken by the greatest number of 1) first place votes, 2) second place votes, 3) third place votes.

Note: The Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year cannot be nominated for or win both awards.

Defensive Player of the Year: Each conference member will vote for three players, excluding their own, in rank order and the winner will be named Defensive Player of the Year. Ties will be broken by the greatest number of 1) first place votes, 2) second place votes, 3) third place votes.

Note: The Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year cannot be nominated for or win both awards. 

Coach of the Year: Each conference member will vote for three coaches, excluding their own, in rank order and the winner will be named Coach of the Year. Ties will be broken by the greatest number of 1) first place votes, 2) second place votes, 3) third place votes. 

Freshman of the Year: The top freshman vote-getter of conference members using the same procedure and time frame as Player of the Year.

  • A student-athlete should qualify only if this is the first collegiate institution attended.
  • It is the student-athlete’s first year of competition (academic sophomores/redshirt freshmen are eligible as long as they took a redshirt year at the same member institution). 
  • Any transfer exception is not applicable (e.g., a student-athlete who transfers from an institution but did not play a sport is still not eligible for award).
  • Nominators have the responsibility to make sure all qualifications are met.

All-Tournament: Coaches will select the All-Tournament Team as follows:

First place - MVP plus three All-Tournament

Second place - Three All-Tournament

Third and fourth place - Two All-Tournament each
