Conference Carolinas Names 2018 Fall Scholar Athletes of the Year

High Point, N.C.Conference Carolinas is proud to announce the 2018 Fall Scholar Athletes of the Year, as voted on by the Student-Athlete Affairs Committee. This prestigious award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each sport for recognition of their outstanding performance both on the field and in the classroom.

Candidates are submitted by member institutions for each of the conference’s twenty-three sponsored sports. To be considered for the honor, the student-athlete must have been named Academic All-Conference, which entails having attended their member institution for at least one year and having reached junior or senior standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher on a 4-point scale. Scholar Athletes of the Year must also be represented on their sport’s First, Second, or Third All-Conference Team, the rosters of which are chosen by coaches at the end of each playing season.  This fall's class of honorees holds an impressive average GPA of 3.9.  

Men’s Cross Country Award Winner
Tai Smith - University of Mount Olive

Earning Second Team All-Conference honors this cross country season, Tai Smith placed sixth individually at the Conference Carolinas Men's Cross Country Championships, where the University of Mount Olive team won their seventh consecutive conference title. Ranked as high as 8th in the USTFCCA National Coaches Poll and 1st in the Southeast Region, Smith is a leader on one of the strongest programs in school history. Recognized as a two-time Southeast All-Region Team honoree, Smith set a new personal record at Regionals, finishing the 10K in a time of 32:12:20. Maintaining a 3.649 GPA to earn Academic-All Conference honors, Smith has demonstrated high levels of success both academically and athletically this fall.
